Capabilities

Barney Swihart is the Executive Director of C.A.R.E. Counseling and has ministered in the city of Philadelphia since 1980.  Barney brings 25 years experience as a counselor and teacher.  For 13 years Barney served with the ministry HARVEST USA, a discipling and evangelistic ministry to men and women who struggle with issues of sexual brokenness. 

He is experienced in dealing with a wide spectrum of counseling issues.  Barney’s professional expertise is focused on individual and marriage counseling and on issues such as sexual addiction, gender identity issues, and sexual abuse.  He also does nationwide seminars on sexual addiction and gender identity issues.  Barney has a special burden to encourage men and women as in the issues they struggle with such as issues of their masculinity and femininity.

Barney received a B.A. degree in counseling psychology from Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, and M.A. and M.Div. degrees from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  In addition, he has received specialized training in pastoral counseling from the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF) in Laverock, Pennsylvania and the Institute of Biblical Counseling (IBC) in Denver, Colorado.  He is married and is the father of three children.
